Vevey lies just along the lakeshore from Montreux and rivals its larger neighbour for both charm and breath-taking views. A lovely Old Town affords many opportunities for boutique shopping and people watching from the elegant cafés, perhaps followed by a stroll under the palm trees by the water's edge.
Along the lakeside promenade, you'll find a charming monument dedicated to the comedian Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin became one of Vevey's most famous residents, spending the last 25 years of his life in this idyllic town by the lake. The fantastic Chaplin's World Museum is set in his former home and gardens. Vevey is also home to Nestlé- in fact the world's first milk chocolate was created here in 1875. Visitors can enjoy the company's Alimentarium - an entertaining and interactive museum dedicated to food and nutrition. Not far from Vevey are several beauty spots, perfect for scenic walks. Recommendations include Mont-Pèlerin, Les Pléiades and the vineyards at Lavaux.
La Tour-de-Peilz is a small lakeside village on the edge of Vevey, perfect for a tranquil holiday by the lake. This charming village has a 13th century castle, which now houses the Swiss Games Museum, and there is a small marina. The promenade links La Tour-de-Peilz with Vevey, a pleasant stroll of around 20 minutes - or you can take the frequent bus. Hotel guests in both resorts benefit from the FREE Montreux Riviera Card, allowing you to hop on and off the local buses, trains and funiculars.Â
