If you are looking for an idyllic Swiss mountain village, then traffic-free Wengen with its picturesque buildings and wonderful views is for you. To reach Wengen, you travel by mountain railway up from Lauterbrunnen. This delightful journey winds its way up in 14 minutes with an ever changing scene of the valley below.Â
Wengen is perched on a sheltered, sun-soaked terrace with spectacular views to the high Alps and a backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. Its relaxed atmosphere, wooden chalets and local stüblis with open terraces make Wengen one of our most popular destinations in all Switzerland. What to see and do from Wengen
Wengen is in an ideal situation for many of the region's top attractions. You can take the mountain train up to Kleine Scheidegg for fabulous walks and connections to the Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe. From Kleine Scheidegg you can also travel down to Grindelwald which lies at the foot of the Eiger. Wengen has its own cable car to Männlichen, another good walking area, which also connects by aerial gondola to Grindelwald. This is one of the longest in Europe and travels high above lovely alpine meadows. We can recommend combining the train Wengen-Kleine Scheidegg-Grindelwald and gondola Grindelwald-Männlichen-Wengen as a wonderful round trip.
On the other side of the Lauterbrunnen Valley is Mürren with the impressive Schilthorn-Piz Gloria cable car to the mountain and one of the original revolving restaurants in the Alps which was made famous by the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. It is also very simple to travel down to Interlaken to enjoy a lake cruise or perhaps take a scenic walk at Harder Kulm. Please click here for our summary of the best the region has to offer.
