A peaceful lakeside village, in complete contrast to the bustle of Lucerne, Weggis has a wonderful location at the base of Mount Rigi. The area is known as the Lucerne Riviera - thanks to its sheltered position under the Rigi, there is a mild climate with flourishing palm trees and orchids. The author Mark Twain visited and called Weggis the "loveliest place" he had ever visited. It is easy to see why, with its air of tranquillity and stunning lakes and mountains views. The perfect place for idyllic Swiss relaxation.Â
You can take the modern cable car from Weggis to Rigi Kaltbad and allow time to enjoy a leisurely lunch. From here you can board Europe's oldest cog railway up to the summit at Rigi Kulm (1,800m) which has magnificent views as far as the Black Forest and many popular walking trails. Extend your day with a return by train all the way down to the village of Vitznau and then by boat back to Weggis. The regular timetable of nostalgic lake steamers and modern ships also connect Weggis to historic Lucerne in just 45 minutes, as well as to popular excursion locations such as Bürgenstock, Pilatus, Klewenalp and Stanserhorn.

With Mount Rigi 'the Queen of Mountains' on your doorstep, this is a must do. Beckenried is a stopping off point for the Klewenalp and after Brunnen the lake flows into Lake Uri where you will be enchanted by the history and legends of Wilhelm Tell.
Why not visit the dramatic Mount Titlis at over 3,000m - a train journey brings you to pretty Engelberg and from here it is an incredible journey to the summit, including an amazing rotating cable car which glides above the glacier.
