About Half Fare Card
The Swiss Travel System covers the 29,000 kilometres of rail, bus and boat routes that make up the densest public transport network in the world. It also famously runs with the precision of a Swiss watch!
The Half Fare Card is included with ALL our air and rail holiday packages and offers excellent value for money. You will be able to buy tickets for the vast majority of the wonderful journeys in Switzerland at a 50% discount on the public price.Â
Just a few examples of the discounted journeys which you can enjoy include:Â
- Travel on the network of mainline trains throughout the country
- Classic scenic rail routes including the Glacier Express, GoldenPass Express and the Bernina Express (small booking fee may apply)
- Cruises on board the boats of Lake Thun, Lake Brienz, Lake Lucerne, Lake Geneva, Lake Lugano, the Swiss section of Lake Maggiore, and Lake Zurich
- Travel on the PostBus network across the country
As well as all this, the Half Fare Card also gives you a discount on the majority of the mountain trains, funiculars and cable cars which you can use to explore the mountains across the country.Â

Please note, there are a few exceptions such as the boats on the Italian section of Lake Maggiore and the last part of the journey to the Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe, where the discount is 25%. The Half Fare Card is not included with self drive holidays. It can be purchased as an optional extra, as part of a Swiss holiday and may not be sold separately. Please ask for details.
