The alpine village of Pontresina lies at 1,800m at the mouth of the Bernina Valley, on a sheltered mountain plateau and surrounded by fragrant pine forests. It is well known by walkers, due to the easy access to the high Alps with views of the Bernina Massif range and the glittering reflections of the lakes of the Engadin plain. There are 580km of walking paths in the region; a particular favourite trail is from Muottas Muragl to Alp Languard and down to Pontresina.Â
Fashionable St. Moritz is close by, linked by rail or bus, but Pontresina has a charm of its own, with its typical Engadin houses and belle époque buildings. The village is a place of tranquility, with plenty of culinary delights and a favourable climate with plenty of sunshine and mild, dry weather. The Alps are ever present - Piz Bernina at 4,049m is the highest peak in the eastern Alps and is a wonderful sight to behold, standing as it does alongside Palü, Roseg and Bellavista. You can also enjoy the mountains on a scenic rail journey, such as the Bernina Express. Hotel guests benefit from the FREE Engadin Inclusive Card during the summer months, allowing you to fully explore the local mountains.
