Charlie Chaplin lived for the last 25 years of his life in his beloved Switzerland, even becoming a Swiss citizen. There is already a famous statue on the waterfront in Vevey and now a new museum dedicated to his life and work has opened in his former home, Le Manoir de Ban. Discover his fascinating life, from a childhood in London's poverty-stricken East End, to his legendary work as an actor, mime artist, director and producer during the golden age of Hollywood, to his quieter final years in an idyllic Swiss Riviera manor house.

Highlights
Le Manoir
This 1840s neoclassical house was Chaplin's family home for many years, where he spent time away from the world's gaze. Visitors can stroll around the manor and see the grand staircase, VIP reception hall, family photo albums, souvenirs of an eventful life in Hollywood and memories of early days in London.Â
The Studio
This exhibition space offers an art gallery and multimedia show, with a presentation of Chaplin's life and work. There are reconstructions of the Hollywood sets for 'Easy Sreet' and 'The Circus'. See a replica of the machine from 'Modern Times' and the cabin from 'The Gold Rush' as well as a Hollywood Walk of Fame. There are more than 30 waxworks of stars and politicians who crossed paths with Chaplin - names as diverse as Churchill, Buster Keaton, Sophia Loren and Gandhi.Â
The Park
A beautiful, 10 acre park is one of the real highlights of a visit here. The clever landscaping mixes ancient trees with twisting paths which give superb views of the lake and the mountains beyond. A lovely space in which to relax.Â
Refreshments
An old farmhouse is the setting for the café which offers a relaxed atmosphere with long wooden trestle tables. The menu is inspired by Chaplin, who loved filming scenes in restaurants and with food.Â
