The holiday can be adapted in various ways to suit you, including upgrading your hotel room, adding more resorts and rail journeys or changing the duration. This holiday is suggested as 8 days, but can easily be extended to a fortnight.

Day 1 - Arrive and explore charming Weggis

Fly from the UK to Zurich in under 2 hours with connecting rail and a delightful boat journey to Weggis. Welcome to your hotel for your 4 night stay and enjoy the beauty of this lakeside village.

Day 2-4 - Free days to enjoy the attractions of the lake and nearby mountains

The delightful lakeside resort of Weggis is a peaceful village nestling below Mount Rigi. Your Swiss Travel Pass is a real bonus as it includes free and unlimited travel on the regular lake boats to explore the region including Lucerne’s beautiful Old Town. Travel to the scenic mountains of Mount Rigi and Stanserhorn is also included and other cog railways and cable cars such as Mount Pilatus are at 50% reduction.

Day 5 - Travel 1st class on the Gotthard Panorama Express to Locarno

Your next adventure is at a leisurely pace with a 1st class lake cruise to Flüelen where you board the special 1st class panoramic train for your sedate journey which heads up the Reuss valley with ever changing views towards the historic Gotthard Pass. The line loops three times past the church at Wassen to the original 19th century Gotthard tunnel after which you dramatically arrive in the beautiful Ticino region of Switzerland. There is a slow looping decent to Bellinzona where you change for the short train journey to Locarno on Lake Maggiore.

Day 6-7 - Enjoy la dolce vita in Locarno and the Ticino region

Locarno is a resort where the Italian influence affects all aspects of life, from the architecture to what you eat. Situated on stunning Lake Maggiore, with the lakeside village of Ascona only a bus ride away, the town is also well placed for enjoying the mountains. Your Ticino Ticket gives you free travel on local trains and buses helping you get the most out of your holiday. You could visit the region’s historical capital, Bellinzona, with three fabulous historic castles to explore. You can also enjoy a day trip to Domodossola on the fabulous Centovalli Line free with your Swiss Travel Pass.

Day 8 - Last day in Switzerland

Time for a last look around Locarno before you take the train back to Zurich airport for your flight to the UK.
