Day 1 - Arrive and get to know Montreux

An 08.55 flight to Geneva with a rail transfer from the airport allows you to start exploring the delights of lakeside Montreux from your very first afternoon.

The train follows the curve of the lake for much of the journey with some great views. As soon as you arrive in Montreux, you enter a graceful world of Belle Epoque buildings and lively atmosphere. After checking in to the modern 4 star hotel Mona with its fantastic views, you might like to take a stroll along the quai and admire the architecture, the floral displays and the glittering lake.

Day 2-7 - Explore Lake Geneva and the region's mountains

Open your curtains and start your day with a view of Lake Geneva!

Your holiday includes a Half Fare Card and a Montreux Riviera Card. With this combination of passes you have free local travel and a 50% discount on other trains and boats as well as reduced entry to major attractions. What will you explore during your stay? One of our favourite recommendations is Les Rochers-De-Naye, a headland from where you have a magnificent view over the lake. The journey up is incredibly scenic and the summit has a restaurant and an alpine garden.

You won’t want to miss out on a lake cruise – nothing beats relaxing on board while the incredible scenery glides by. Time your journey right and you could be cruising on a restored paddle steamer for ultimate charm.

You could cruise to Chillon (or take the bus) - this romantic castle is just along the shore and is well worth exploring, or to the Lavaux region where centuries old vines are cultivated. It is a joy to wander in the vineyards and taste the wine in a charming restaurant. Nearby Vevey is the birthplace of milk chocolate and the home of Charlie Chaplin - and there are excellent museums dedicated to each of them.

During your stay your may like to take a full day out. We can recommend a memorable scenic rail journey on the GoldenPass Express to Gstaad - enjoy lunch and a stroll in this famous alpine village before your return to Montreux. Or how about an excursion into the high mountains at 3,000m with year round snow? Glacier 3000 makes for a fabulous day out with outstanding views from the summit.

Day 8 - Last day

Time to say adieu to Montreux and make your way back to the airport. Your afternoon flight allows time for souvenir shopping and a lakeside lunch before your train departs.
