Highlights
Glamorous St. Moritz
Lying in the sheltered Upper Engadin valley, on the southern side of the Alps, the sun apparently shines 322 days a year here! St. Moritz originally gained popularity as a mineral spa town and then as the first winter alpine resort around 150 years ago. It has a fascinating cultural heritage, with Romansch as its official main language, famous visitors such as Nietzsche and Wagner and a recognisable style of Engadin architecture. Delicious treats such as Engadin nut tart await you!
On arrival, you will find it easy to find your way around the streets of St. Moritz. Enjoy browsing amongst the elegant shops and take time to enjoy the view over Lake St. Moritz. In winter, you can skate on the lake; in summer it sparkles brilliantly and the mountains beyond are just stunning.
Lakes and mountains
St. Moritz is perfectly situated to enjoy wonderful natural scenery. You have Lake St. Moritz before you, and a quick bus journey will take you to the equally scenic alpine lakes of Sils and Silvaplana. There are walking trails to enjoy along the lakes - enjoy the idyllic views.Â
If you would like to travel up into the mountains, there are excellent connections. With more limited time during a day trip, perhaps the best option is the funicular train which travels from the town up to Chantarella and then to Corviglia at 2,486m. Here you can enjoy a choice of scenic walks and memorable views across the Alps.
Treat yourself to a memorable lunch
St. Moritz is a gourmet destination for food-lovers from around the world. It is estimated that one in ten of the restaurants in the town and in the mountains has a Michelin star or is featured in the Gault & Millau dining guide. It may be that taking lunch in one of these fine establishments is the highlight of your visit to St. Moritz, in which case, we recommend booking a table well in advance.Â
Of course, you may be looking for a quick lunch in which case there are plenty of simple restaurants and cafés to enjoy. Or you could travel up into the mountains for an alpine experience ... sitting on the sun terrace of a mountain restaurant, marvelling at the glorious view while you enjoy lunch.Â
Directions
The rail connections from the resorts in the north of the Graubünden region run frequently to St. Moritz. The scenery through your window is fabulous!
From Klosters the quickest journey is 1 hour 10 minutes, from Davos it is 1 hour 30 and from Chur 2 hours.Â
Of course the resort of Pontresina is very close to St. Moritz. You can travel between the two towns by regular bus or train service in under 15 minutes.
