Highlights
Journey to the mountain
Arosa is already at a fairly high altitude - 1,800m. You can enjoy a trip even higher, thanks to the two stage cable car to the Weisshorn. The first takes you up to the middle station at 2,013m and the second to the summit station at 2,653m.Â
The cable cars run regularly through the day and offer lovely views as you travel.
Refreshments
The Weissgipfel 360 Panoramarestaurant at the summit offers delicious lunches throughout the summer season. With freshly prepared dishes and fabulous views from the panoramic windows, this makes for a real treat during your day on the mountain. If you would prefer a coffee and homemade patisserie, the lounge offers a relaxed setting.Â
If you would like to take lunch at the middle station, the Brüggerstuba is recommended. You will find several other small mountain restaurants along the alpine walking trails of the region.Â
Walking
Because the geological composition changes dramatically between Arosa and the Weisshorn there is a huge variety of flora to enjoy, including over 900 different flowering plants, 30 ferns and 250 mosses and mushrooms.
You may enjoy the moderately challenging 4½ hour trail which leaves from the middle station and leads you to the top of the mountain. The trail ascends between meadows and moss covered scenery while maintaining sweeping views down over the Schanfigg Valley. Stop for a drink and catch your breath at the Weissgipfel Panoramarestaurant before taking the steep path down to the Carmenna hut. From here the trail meanders more gently down to Innerarosa.Â
Arosa Bear Sanctuary
Rescue bears have been enjoying their new fabulous home on the Weisshorn since 2018.
You can visit the bears at the middle station and then enjoy a drink in the nearby Brüggerstuba restaurant. Children will enjoy the 'bear school' playground and there are plans to develop the sanctuary with more bears in the coming years.
Directions
The cable car valley station departs from the Obersee lake - you can walk to it from the centre of Arosa.
If you wanted a scenic walk, you could even ascend the mountain from Obersee to the middle station.Â
Please check before travel for maintenance closures.Â
