Highlights
Journey to the mountain
The first cable car takes you steeply up to Jschalp at 1,931m. You could stop here for walking and refreshments or continue with the second cable car on the journey to the Jakobshorn at 2,590m. Both journeys over wonderful views as you travel.Â
Refreshments
At the middle station, the Jschalp Bergrestaurant will offer a light lunch, cool drinks and the chance to relax on the sun terrace. There is a children's playground nearby.
Unless you are taking a picnic, it may be wise to eat here as the mountain huts at the summit and on the walking trails tend not to open in the summer. For a barbecue spot near the summit, try the gentle 20 minute walk to Stadlersee. Firewood is provided.
Walking in the mountains
From Jschalp, there are several easier walking trails - back down to Davos, or over to the village of Clavadel at 1,664m.
If you would like to try something more challenging, you could hike up from Jschalp to the Jakobshorn summit, or take the cable car up, then follow one of the trails such as towards the alpine hamlet of Sertig Dörfli.
All around are fantastic views of the peaks of the high Alps.Â
Cheese dairy
A highlight of a day on the Jakobshorn is the Clavadeleralp cheese dairy, situated at a height of 2,028m above sea level. You can reach the dairy by walking for around 45 minutes from the cable car middle station or by taking the bus from Davos to Clavadel and then an hour's walk.
During your visit can watch traditional cheese-making demonstrations and have a go yourself between mid June and mid September. There is also a restaurant here for refreshments including the local produce.
Directions
The first stage of the cable car departs from Davos Platz, which you can walk to from your Davos hotel.Â
There are good rail connections from Klosters (twice an hour).
Please check before travel for maintenance closures.
