Alpine Garden

The botanical garden is very special and shows the plants in their natural habitat. There are more than 600 plant species to enjoy in this alpine garden which is open 08.30 to 18.00 from the end of May until mid October and admission is included in the price of your train ticket. With advance notice you can book a guided tour of the garden and staff will give you all the information about the life and environment of alpine flowers.

Alphorn players

Enjoy this typically Swiss alpine custom daily from 11am-2pm.

Mountain restaurant

Built in 1899, the restaurant boasts a panorama dining room  and an outdoor terrace. Both have magnificent views. Wholesome Swiss and international cuisine.

Hiking

There are many different walking and hiking routes and it is a unique experience. You will be amazed by the spectacular views of the Lake Brienz and the mountains. The landscape that surrounds Schynige Platte is a combination of rock, stones and beautiful green meadows that are well known for alpine flowers.

The new Panorama Flower Trail is an accessible path for all ages that takes you through meadows and offers great lakes and mountains views. Below are two traditional hiking routes with amazing views not only of the high Alps but also the mountain environment with all its different flora and fauna along the way.

Schynige Platte - Faulhorn - First

The first section has various rock formations and views of Lake Brienz. When you reach the Männdlenen hut, the trail rises steeply up to Winteregg from where you have a wonderful view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The walk is relatively flat and then becomes steeper at Faulhorn, where the view is phenomenal - on a fine day you can see into the Black Forest. Continue down the old mule track to the Bachalpsee, which offers beautiful scenery. From here it's not far to the First cable car which will take you to Grindelwald. Hiking time is approximately 6 hours.

Wilderswil - Breitlauenen - Schynige Platte

From Wilderswil you follow the traditional trail to Breitlauenen, mostly through the shady mountain forest - it is a very pleasant route. Your journey then includes the valleys of the Lütschine and the Aare. Slightly uphill the path leads up to the Schynige Platte. Most striking is the scenery to the viewpoint of Schynige Platte which is in such close proximity to the majestic mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfraujoch - it's truly amazing! Hiking time is approximately 3 hours from Wilderswil to Brietlaunen and approximately 1½ hours from Brietlaunen to Schynige Platte.

Directions

The starting point for your journey up to the Schynige Platte begins in Wilderswil.

The station is on the route of the Berner Oberland Bahn between Interlaken Ost, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. It is also easily accessible from Bern, Thun or Spiez.
