The panoramic Luzern-Interlaken Express train connects favourite resorts in a scenic two hour journey through the very heart of Switzerland, passing along the shores of crystal clear lakes and over the magnificent Brünig mountain pass. Board the train with its distinctive red
livery in historic Lucerne, and you travel along the lakeside to Alpnachstad and then to the
Saarner lake. For the section from Giswil, the train is required to
engage its cog rail system to overcome a gradient four times steeper than the
famous Gotthard line. Another scenic lake (Lungern) comes into view after which
you head through picturesque countryside towards the Brünig Pass which – at a
height of over 1,000m - links Central Switzerland with the Bernese Oberland. The journey continues to Meiringen, starting
point for visits to the region’s gorges. The
train descends towards Brienz and here you again travel along a picturesque
lakeshore as you make your way to Interlaken, gateway to the Jungfrau mountains.
The Luzern-Interlaken Express runs every hour in each direction between Lucerne and Interlaken and the journey takes around 2 hours.Â
