Day 1 - Arrive and get to know Weggis

Your journey begins with an 08.40 flight to Zurich and an hour’s rail journey to Lucerne. From here you join a lake boat to take you along the water to Weggis. As you approach, you will be struck by the sight of the picturesque village, nestled at the foot of Mount Rigi. Your stay is at the 4 star Hotel Alexander which is a modern hotel with a pool and fantastic spa facilities. We highly recommend adding on the half board option which includes 4 course evening meals. After check in you might like to take a wander through the village and enjoy the beautiful views over the lake and to the mountains beyond.

Day 2-7 - Explore Lake Lucerne and the region's mountains

Open your curtains and start your day with a view of Lake Lucerne!

This holiday includes a Swiss Travel Pass whose benefits include free travel by train, bus and boat all over Switzerland, and 50% discount for most mountain travel. As an added benefit for holidays in Weggis, you actually have free mountain travel for 3 nearby mountains. Why not start with Mount Rigi which rises high above the village. You can take the cable car directly, or maybe cruise along to Vitznau and journey up on the cogwheel railway. Rigi features mountain restaurants, walking trails - and spectacular views over the lake.

Stanserhorn is another great excursion and the cable car has a unique feature - an open top deck for views with a thrill! Stoos offers mountain tranquillity with stunning views and a remarkable funicular. Both of these excursions are free with your Pass.

You won't want to miss out on a day's cruising for Lake Lucerne is one of the most picturesque in the world. Board at Weggis for a free, magical journey on the water (time it carefully and you could be aboard a restored paddle steamer). Relax and take in the view of pretty villages and majestic mountains. You'll even glide past Rütli, birthplace of the Swiss nation. Another day you may like to cruise back to Lucerne to explore the cafés and chocolate shops, wander among the historic streets and maybe visit a museum.

We also have recommendations for a full day trip. Start with a train journey to the pretty mountain village of Engelberg. The last part of the journey and the cable cars up to the peak of Mount Titlis are at a 50% discount and you will be rewarded with an unforgettable step into a glacial world at over 3,000m altitude. Or why not visit historic Bern and explore the cobbled streets and covered arcades of the Old Town. This rail journey is free and takes you across picturesque countryside.

Day 8 - Last day

Time to say auf wiedersehen to Weggis and make your way back to the airport. Your afternoon flight allows time for a last lakeside stroll and coffee before you go.
