Highlights

Depart Montreux

The Train du Fromage will be waiting in Montreux station to welcome you on board for this fantastic experience. The journey has lovely views all the way through the countryside to the charming village of Château-d'Oex .

Cheese making demonstration

When you arrive in Château-d'Oex you will be taken to the 'Le Chalet' restaurant for a cheese making demonstration. The artisans make their own 'Chalet Bio' cheese over a wood fire, just as it has been made in Swiss alpine chalets for generations. Before your eyes the cheesemakers, often wearing traditional costumes, will transform around 400 litres of organic milk into cheese.

Fondue lunch

Lunch will be served at the welcoming and authentically rustic 'Le Chalet' restaurant. You will be treated to an excellent fondue ... indulge in the unctuous deliciousness of the organic cheese which has been made on the very premises. Drinks and desserts can also be ordered (not included in the price) and you will receive a souvenir of your visit after the meal.

Afternoon activities

After lunch you can visit GoldenPass miniature railway in the room above the restaurant. You may also like to visit the nearby Musée du Pays-d'Enhaut, where you can discover the treasures of local crafts and the art of paper-cutting. Then why not take a stroll through the picturesque village and visit Espace Ballon - the home of hot air ballooning for which the area has become famous. Present your Cheese Train ticket here for 50% discount on entry. Learn about the exploits of Brian Jones and Bertrand Piccard, who set off from Château-d'Oex in 1999 to complete the first non-stop balloon circumnavigation of the world.

As the afternoon is at leisure, you can take the train back to Montreux at 13.04, 14.04 or 15.04.

Directions

This excursion is available February-October on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
