Please be aware that if you are emailing from a mobile phone or tablet, some devices will automatically reduce the size of your photos. We therefore recommend sending images from a desktop computer - one at a time via email - OR using the free transfer service at www.wetransfer.com

All contributors grant to The Swiss Holiday Company the right to publish their photos in perpetuity. No fees will be payable for these uses.

1. The calendar competition closes at 6pm on 27 September 2024. Entries received after this date will not be considered for the calendar but can still be published on the website. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted. Winners will be notified by 31 October 2024. The Swiss Holiday Company’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

2. All photographs entered must have been taken in Switzerland.

3. By entering the calendar competition all entrants grant to The Swiss Holiday Company the right to publish their photo in the calendar, in brochures, on the website and on social media in perpetuity. No fees will be payable for these uses. 

4. The 12 photographers whose images are chosen for a calendar month page will each win a £20 M&S voucher. In addition one of the images will be chosen as the cover photo and they will receive an additional £100 credit towards a holiday with The Swiss Holiday Company to be taken by 31st December 2025.

The prizes are as stated and cannot be deferred or transferred. There will be no cash alternatives.

Our calendar will print images at A4 size, therefore we require high resolution 300ppi images. 

Successful images must be landscape format with a minimum approximate pixel ratio of 1984 x 1400. Anything higher is good as it will result in a sharper image. The ideal pixel ratio for A4 is 3450 x 2400.

Why is this important?

The minimum resolution for printing photos is 300dpi. As the name suggests, this means that there are about 300 pixels (or dots) for every square inch of the image. This will result in sharper image quality and a more professional finished product.

The higher an image’s ppi (pixels per inch), the higher the print resolution and the better the image will look. Most online images have a default setting of 72ppi, which looks fine on a computer monitor or smartphone screen but will unfortunately be pixelated on a printed page.

How do I know if a photo is high resolution? 

Windows PC: right-click on the image and then select 'Properties'. A window will appear - go to the 'Details' tab to see the image's dimensions and resolution.

Mac: open the image in Preview and select 'Tools' then 'Adjust Size'. The details are labelled 'Resolution'.

Sending from a mobile phone

Many images received this year from a mobile phone or tablet were not able to be used. Although the original images were high resolution, some phones automatically compress the size of the image when emailing them. We therefore recommend sending images from a desktop computer - one at a time via email - OR using the free transfer service at www.wetransfer.com
