"A magical twist to this holiday - you'll spend a night at the summit of the Gornergrat (3,100m) and a night on the Pilatus mountain top (2,132m). These wonderful experiences are the cherry on top of an already fabulous holiday spent in Zermatt and Lucerne."

Day 1 - Arrive and explore alpine Zermatt

Fly from the UK to Zurich in under 2 hours with connecting rail travel to Zermatt. Welcome to your hotel for your 2 night stay and enjoy your first views of the stunning Matterhorn mountain.

Day 2 - Sublime views in the Matterhorn region

Zermatt is a fascinating alpine village dominated by the Matterhorn and the story of its dramatic conquest. There are great options of exciting rail and cable cars into the high Alps, all available at half price, such as the network of cable cars to Klein Matterhorn - which at 3,883m is the highest sightseeing point in Europe. Try an alternative view from the idyllic lake of Schwarzsee at the foot of the Matterhorn. You will not be disappointed by the views and walking routes with picturesque refreshment stops in this stunning alpine region

Day 3 - ‘Summit Experience’ - an overnight stay on top of the world

A real adventure awaits as you travel up on the Gornergrat cog railway to over 3,100m altitude for your overnight stay including dinner at the 3100 Kulmhotel, the highest hotel in the Swiss Alps. Its impressive location and view of the surrounding mountain peaks is second to none - everyone leaves with wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

Day 4 - From your mountain top experience to the lakeside at Lucerne

What better way of travelling back down to earth than via the Gornergrat cog railway to Zermatt. Connect here with a scenic route to the valley at Visp, then onward travel by regional train to the wonderful old town of Lucerne.

Day 5-6 - Discover the beautiful Old Town, lake and surrounding mountains

With your Swiss Travel Pass, Lucerne is perfectly placed to enjoy free travel around the dramatic scenery of Central Switzerland - a cruise is a must as this is without doubt one of the most beautiful lakes, whose shoreline is dotted with idyllic villages. Also included free with your Swiss Travel Pass are the famous old cog railway to the stunning peak of Mount Rigi, the Stanserhorn open top deck cable car and the Stoos funicular.

Day 7 - A night in Mount Pilatus Kulm hotels - magical dreams are included

This starry mountain-top experience including dinner is a complete contrast to the Gornergrat stay. Mount Pilatus stands high above Lucerne at 2,132m and so has incredible views of the waters of Lake Lucerne as well as a vista across the mountain peaks as far as the eye can see. Travel to the summit year round by cable ways, and during the summer on the world’s steepest cog railway.

Day 8 - Last day with travel down to Lucerne and home

After a leisurely breakfast, travel by cable way to Lucerne for the hour’s rail travel back to Zurich airport and your flight to the UK.
