Rustic charm is combined with over 150km of marked pistes in the whole Saas Valley, which comprises four delightful villages. We recommend your holiday is based in picturesque Saas-Fee which has the largest ski area, with the neighbouring villages and pistes just a short bus ride away. With guaranteed snow at this altitude, there is a wide choice for all grades of skier. The glacier provides a dramatic backdrop to several of the runs, many of which are above the tree line. The village of Saas-Fee is traffic free, except for the little electric trolleys that carry goods around and this makes for a special atmosphere as you stroll through the narrow cobbled streets. Even the newest buildings feature a wealth of wood as development has been strictly controlled. Above Saas-Fee the 'Metro-Alpina' - the highest underground funicular in the world - climbs up to the world's highest revolving restaurant at 3,500m which is a must-do while you are on holiday here.
40th anniversary of Wham's Last Christmas
It's the 40th anniversary of one of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time - Wham!'s Last Christmas. Did you know that the video was shot in Saas-Fee? Don't miss the BBC2 documentary which features a reunion in the snow-covered village. Nostalgia abounds as members of the band and friends revisit the video locations and there's even an interview with the Mayor of Saas-Fee, who 40 years ago was the band’s driver during the shoot! Andrew Ridgely commented, "Revisiting Saas Fee, four decades on, with some of the closest friends of my youth was a very special experience and one which I know Yog would have loved to have shared in.”
Saas-Fee itself is celebrating with host of special activities this winter including an exhibition in the museum, a guided walking tour of the video locations, a karaoke box at the village entrance and various après-ski 80s themed events.
