The Arosa Lenzerheide ski area
Switzerland’s sunny skiing region: Arosa Lenzerheide
This idyllic winter sports region now covers three valley sides from Arosa to Lenzerheide and offers unrivalled opportunities for enjoying the pistes. The centrepiece is the Urdenbahn cable car which runs between the Hörnli at 2,494 m above sea level and the Urdenfürggli at 2,546 m. The ride high above the Urden Valley takes 3 minutes and the cable car has a capacity of 150 people.
Lenzerheide's local slopes offer a wealth of varied skiing well supported by the free local ski bus which ensures efficient movement between the areas. A third of the skiing has the benefit of additional artificial snow keeping the area well covered into the middle of April when the lifts finally close. The attractive lower pistes below the mid-stations are wide runs through wooded areas, where the skiing is excellent. There are great off piste and freeride areas along with an impressive range of cross country skiing. The main areas rise up from both sides of Lenzerheide, where the west side up to Piz Scalottas at 2,323m has the benefit of the morning sun whilst the east slopes up to 2,865m at the Rothorn have the afternoon sun.
It is possible to ski clockwise right around Lenzerheide and Valbella starting from the lift at Val Sporz and finishing back at the PostBus station in Lenzerheide. In no time at all 40 modern transport facilities smooth your way around a wide variety of downhill runs, sunny panoramic terraces and alpine restaurants.
There are two new lifts: an 8 seater gondola for Churwalden and a 4 seater chairlift for Obertor. The Rothorn aerial tramway has also been refurbished.
